LEGO Christmas Decorations Under $50 (Ornaments Included)

Six LEGO Christmas sets: candle table decoration, snowman ornaments, gingerbread house, stocking, Santa sleigh and Buddy the Elf

Somebody on your list already owns every Christmas decoration a store could sell them. The candle, the wreath, the ceramic reindeer with one chipped ear.

LEGO Christmas decorations under $50 are a different kind of gift, because the recipient gets to build them first. Seven sets follow, from $12.99 to $49.99, and the cheapest is a pair of real tree ornaments.

LEGO Snowman Ornaments – Actual Tree Ornaments for Under $13

$12.99 | 168 pieces | Set No. 40812

Two LEGO snowman ornaments, one in a top hat holding a candy cane, one in round glasses with a lantern, on a mantel with pinecones

A pair of snowmen small enough to hang from a branch is the easiest yes on this list. The Snowman Ornaments build an adult in a top hat holding a gift and a child in glasses and a beanie holding a lantern, both with carrot noses and a hanging ring. The taller one stands a little over 4 inches high.

The pair costs $12.99, more than a glass ball, but nobody builds a glass ball. If the tree is full, they sit just as well on a windowsill. The LEGO Group rates the set for ages 6 and up, so it suits a kid, a coworker or a stocking.

The LEGO Santa’s Holiday Sleigh Adventure Set: A Scene Under Ten Inches Long

$29.99 | 187 pieces | Set No. 40866

LEGO Santa sleigh set with two reindeer, Santa and Mrs. Claus on a sideboard with warm string lights behind

This is the set on the list that tells a small story. Santa’s Holiday Sleigh Adventure comes with Santa and Mrs. Claus as minifigures (the classic little LEGO people), a sleigh loaded with presents, two reindeer that hitch to the front and a baby reindeer. It runs about 9.5 inches long and 2.5 inches high, small enough for a mantel or a desk.

It’s also the weakest deal on paper: at $29.99 for 187 pieces, you get fewer bricks per dollar than from any other set here. You’re paying for the cast, two minifigures and three reindeer. That suits someone who likes small scenes, or a young relative, since the reindeer really do hitch up. Less so anyone who wants a decoration with presence.

LEGO Christmas Stocking – Hangs Up or Stands Up, Your Call

$34.99 | 342 pieces | Set No. 40958

LEGO Christmas stocking with gold stars hanging from a pine branch, filled with a candy cane, gingerbread tree and toy soldier

The Christmas Stocking is the only piece here designed to go on a wall. A ring on the back handles the hanging, and a pop-out kickstand lets it stand on a shelf instead. It’s over 9.5 inches tall, decorated with holly leaves and golden stars, and a Nutcracker minifigure, a gingerbread tree and a candy cane come along as the gifts to tuck inside.

Whether $34.99 is fair depends on where it’s going. At 1.5 inches deep it reads more like wall art than a centerpiece. On a shelf, the gingerbread house gives you more to look at for $5 more.

LEGO Buddy the Elf – The Most Set for the Money Here

$39.99 | 713 pieces | Set No. 40865

LEGO Buddy the Elf figure in a green suit and yellow tights, hands on hips, standing among candy canes with a small penguin

For anyone who quotes the movie every December, Buddy is the obvious pick. He’s a built figure rather than a tiny minifigure, over 12 inches tall, standing on an ice-shaped base at the North Pole with a puffin, candy canes and a bottle of maple syrup. If the recipient has never seen the film, skip this one.

On value, it’s the standout: 713 pieces for $39.99 is more bricks per dollar than any other set here, and it’s the biggest build of the seven.

One caution: a face made from LEGO bricks is always a stylized take on the real thing, so check the box photos first.

LEGO Festive Gingerbread House – A Christmas Scene That Opens Up

$39.99 | 498 pieces | Set No. 40809

LEGO Festive Gingerbread House with a roof covered in colorful candy dots, candy cane columns and a Santa figure by the door

Tiny things with secrets are the whole appeal here. From the outside, the Festive Gingerbread House is a decorated cottage. It opens to reveal Santa’s desk, a fireplace and a bedroom, with a Santa minifigure to move between them.

It’s compact, about 5.5 inches tall and 4.5 wide, so it slots onto a shelf without crowding anything but won’t anchor a table. At $39.99 it costs the same as Buddy and the Table Decoration and is the smallest of the three, so the opening and the rooms inside are what you’re paying for. Tell the recipient it opens, or the best part stays hidden.

LEGO Christmas Table Decoration – The Centerpiece That Won’t Drip

$39.99 | 433 pieces | Set No. 40743

LEGO Christmas table decoration with a tall red candle, bow, gold snowflakes, pine sprigs and red berries on a marble counter

Most centerpieces are candles, and candles drip. The Christmas Table Decoration is a red one surrounded by red berries, golden stars and green foliage, all built from LEGO bricks. It stands over 7 inches tall and roughly 8 inches wide and 9 deep, a proper centerpiece rather than a polite gesture.

It needs no matches, leaves no wax and has never once been blown out by a draft.

Of the three $39.99 sets, this one looks least like a toy. There’s no character to explain and no theme to commit to, which suits a host, an in-law or anyone whose house runs on tasteful. It’s the safest pick here, and sometimes safe is the point.

LEGO Poinsettia – The Top End of Christmas Decorations Under $50

$49.99 | 608 pieces | Set No. 10370

LEGO Poinsettia with red blooms and green leaves in a tan pot, displayed on a windowsill among real houseplants

Only one set here is rated for adults, and it’s also the priciest. The Poinsettia, which the LEGO Group rates for ages 18 and up, is a replica of a ‘Grande Italia’ poinsettia in a woven-basket pot, over 8 inches tall and 8.5 wide. The plant is posable, so it can be adjusted to suit its spot.

At $49.99 it sits right at the ceiling. In its favor, it looks like a houseplant rather than a toy, and a poinsettia says Christmas without a Santa in the picture. Against it, the Table Decoration costs $10 less and takes up more of the table.

When Fifty Dollars Runs Out

Fifty dollars only goes so far on a mantel. LEGO Christmas Decorations When the Mantel Isn’t Enough picks up where this list stops, and LEGO Holiday Decorations: From Easter to Christmas is the full tour of the year.

Other seasons do the same budget math. LEGO Easter Decorations That Won’t Get Eaten is the spring version, minus the chocolate, and LEGO Halloween Decorations Under $50 for a Haunted Shelf keeps the same price cap for October.
